Hovid is a healthcare provider and pharmaceutical company in Malaysia that produces and manufactures more than 350 products, which mainly categorized into generic drugs, dietary supplements and consumer products. The company's product portfolio includes anti-histamine, antibiotics, anti-hypertensive, antispasmodic, tranquilizer, analgesic, anti-hyperlipididemia, antacid, anti-asthamatic, anticonvulsant, anti-diarrhea, anti-gout, anti-emetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tyroid, diuretic, hormonal, anti-ulcerant, and cough & cold. All the products produced by Hovid are with Halal certified.

Hovid's strength lies in its Research and Development. The R&D activities focus on the special delivery systems and bioavailability, the enhanced formulations for drugs and innovative supplements. Hovid Berhad was public listed on the second board of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) on April 5, 2005 and was transferred to the main board of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on June 20, 2006.
Hovid's products are marketed in more than 50 countries worldwide The company was the first to introduce Malaysia generic drugs overseas since 20 plus years ago, starting from South East Asia. It has successfully secured more than 700 marketing authorizations globally.

Hovid is an approved supplier to UNRWA and UNICEP's drugs procurement programmer.

Dr. Ho Kai Cheong , the founder of Ho Yan Hor Company formulated a unique concoction of 24 specially chosen Chinese herbs with the intention of helping people and the motivation of growing the business in early 1940s. Dr. Ho started boil he herbal tea and sell them in front of his shop (his residence as well) at No. 1, Treacher Street (currently known as Jalan Bijih Timah in Ipoh Old Town), Perak, Malaysia. The herbal tea is a traditional remedy brew from the herbs to help cooling don the excessive body heat, reducing the risk of inflammation and common cold. It was the popular alternative to western medicine during the post World War II period and its cooling and anti viral properties. Most of the people during the time did not have money to see doctor during the illness, and they would choose the traditional ways to seek for recovery.

Back in the 1950s, there was a worldwide flu epidemic where millions were dying and many in Ipoh started drinking the Ho Yan Hor Herbal Tea

 . Most of them were the tin miners, where they would boil the tea, drink it hot and cover themselves with thick blanket. They felt better after the sweat which led them the recovery. Since then, Ho Yan Hor had become a household name.

In 1970s, Dr. Ho Kai Cheong sent his eldest son, David Ho Sue San

 to New Zealand to pursue the Degree and Master in Pharmacy. After graduated, David went to Wyeth, United Kingdom to work as a research pharmacist for 2 years. David returned to Malaysia in 1980 and took over his father's business. He started with modernizing the manufacturing process of the herbal tea.

David then founded Hovid Berhad, introduced the new pharmaceuticals. Along with his father's success in pioneering the herbal business, David led Hovid into a new chapter of manufacturing excellence. Armed with the expertise in pharmacy and with the strong leadership and entrepreneurship passion, David ventured into the mainstream of pharmaceuticals. David had successful transformed the herbal tea business into the pharmaceutical manufacturing company.

Dr. Ho Kai Cheong was a generous man, who gave much to charities as his business flourished. He died on January 11, 2007 at the age of 97. Continuing with the founder's philosophy, Hovid today takes its responsibilities of being a good corporate citizen seriously by taking initiatives to address the social and environmental needs of the community.
