for a year. In 1884 he was appointed professor
of vertebrate morphology at the Wistar Institute of Anatomy, University of Pennsylvania, and from 1894 to 1905 was professor of zoölogy and director of the institution; in the university he was secretary of the biological faculty (1884–1889) and dean
of the college faculty (1889–1894). He became a trustee of Drexel Institute
