A grade II listed building, The Hexthorpe House, was a well known pub in the area, which the pub front was listed for historic reasons. However, recently there was trouble around the area, and the pub was set ablaze twice, which the owner, reportedly wanted to replace with flats. After remaining derelict for a few months, the council demolished the remains, as its current state left it unsafe.
During until the late 60's and early 70's, the area was of decent standard, housing many of its own shops, without the need for the residents to travel into the town for shopping much. The area today is a shadow of its former self, with much of Hexthorpe towards the town, in a severe state of decline. There is a large ethnic background in the area, with residents from China, Kosavo, India and Pakistan, Turkey and Jamaica living in the area. The area towards the park is more affluent, with the houses surrounding the park and the river, the more sought after locations.
The area is covered by Hexthorpe Primary School (also contains a Nursery), which is listed by Ofsted as one of the highest achieving schools in the borough. The areas secondary education is covered by

There is two industrial estates in Hexthorpe, one at Cherry Tree Road, and the other at Hexthorpe Trading Park. The area is currently down for regeneration, which aims to boost local commerce and residential fortunes in the area.
There is a large park next to the school which is called Hexthorpe Flatts. The park used to be looked after by a park keeper, but since the removal of the park keepers, this park has also fell into some minor decline. The area does remain popular with families throughout the areas of Balby and Hexthorpe, and the park houses The Dell, a bandstand set in a small quarry, which was converted into a picturesque area. The park is situated next to the river Don, and is separated from Balby by a rail line, however residents of the area may use the footbridge to access the park. The park is next to Hexthorpe Manor. The Manor is now a Therapeutic Community for people aged between 18-30, recovering from severe trauma, illnesses and other similar situations. The Manor was run as an extension of the Holy Rood House at

Plant Works
Hexthorpe is situated next to the

at Doncaster, which was famous for building the Flying Scotsman, and the A1 Mallard trains. until recently it was used as a repair yard for trains, ceasing to build new engines. Only a fraction, next to Doncaster Station exists, with the rest, demolished to make way for housing. An extensive cleaning operation was needed to remove bits of train that was buried, and asbestos.
