train weekdays. When it operates, the Z train bypasses the station.

This elevated station, built four stories above street level and opened on June 25, 1888, has two side platforms and three tracks. The center track is used by J and Z trains weekdays in peak direction. Each platform has beige windscreens, green canopies, and red rooves that run from end to end.

The exit to Hewes Street at the east (railroad south) end of the station is now an emergency exit and its stationhouse has been removed. From each platform, a single staircase goes down to Broadway, the northbound platform to the south sidewalk and the southbound one to the northeast corner of Hewes Street.

The station's only active entrance is at the west (railroad north) end of the station. Each platform has a single staircase leading to the elevated stationhouse beneath the tracks. It has a turnstile bank and token booth. Outside of fare control, two staircases lead to the western corners of Broadway and Hopper Street. Each staircase landing has an exit-only turnstile to allow passengers to exit without having to go through the stationhouse.
