Many of the roads in Hareskovby are named after plants and flowers such as 'rose', 'clover' (Rosevej; Kløvervej in Danish with the Danish suffix -vej for 'road').

Hareskovby is situated south and west of the Hareskov forests, the suffix skov meaning 'forest' or 'woods' in Danish . The name of Hareskov itself is related to the prefix 'Harre' meaning stone alter. The forests are used as a centre of recreation north of Copenhagen
