Haq Nawaz Jhangviwho was the son of Wali Muhammad was a controversial Pakistani cleric, who founded the Islamic organization Sipah-e-Sahaba in the 1980s. Jhangvi was born in 1954 in the town of Jhang

. After completing his primary education in Arabic and Theology, he left for Multan where he studied in the Islamic University, Khair-ul-Madaris. He qualified as an alim (Islamic scholar) in 1972 from this university at the age of 19, after which he once more returned to his home town of Jhang.
Jhangvi was killed in a bomb attack by Shia militants on 23 February 1990. Former Sipah-e-Sahaba member Riaz Basra named his own organization, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
