Hamsalekha is a music director
and lyricist
in the Kannada film industry. He also writes screenplays and dialogues for movies. He has composed music for over 300 feature films and has written lyrics for 300-odd feature films. He has also composed for Tamil and Telugu films. He stormed the Kannada music industry with his catchy tunes and racy lyrics in the movie Premaloka
(1987). His mother tongue is Kannada and his hometown is Mysore, India.

, released in 1987, brought the pair together for a collaboration that would endure for over 12 years. Hamsalekha's style includes elements of Western music & Hindustani music. He is well-versed in playing keyboards, guitar, piano, harmonium, and percussion; he also performs vocals.
His wife Latha Hamsalekha is also a great singer. Aakaaradalli sharabu thubide from Anjada Gandu, O meghave nidhanavagi baa from the film Ranaranga and others are still popular ones among film music lovers.
