They were known as the Hamilton Cardinals for many years. On January 1, 2005, Drew Brady purchased the Hamilton Cardinals franchise in the Intercounty Major Baseball league. The club was re-named the Hamilton Thunderbirds and took on a whole new look with revitalized facilities and new uniforms.

Along with media coverage from local newspapers, home games since 2010 have been broadcasted on 101.5 INDI FM

Championships

The Hamilton Cardinals had played 1,490 games with a record of 525 wins and 965 losses before becoming the Thunderbirds, winning the Intercounty title in 1978.
