Radical opposition parties, including the Guinean People's Rally (RPG) and the Union of Forces for the Republic, chose to boycott the election, believing that it would be fraudulent. There were 4,458,871 registered voters at the time of the election, and turnout was placed at 72.47%. The PUP won all of the 38 seats that were decided in single-member constituencies, as well as another 47 seats through proportional representation
