Albufeira is a Portuguese municipality in the Faro District, Algarve region. Its name came from the Arabic: البحيرة . The city has a population of 13,646. The municipality has a population of 35,281 inhabitants and a total area of 140.6 km²...

. It has a population of 3,630 (as of 2001) and an area of 18.45 km². It is approximately 5 km from the coast. The nearest beaches are Laurenco and Gale.

It is famous for its numerous piri-piri restaurants. Situated on the N125 (the principal east to west road on the Algarve with the exception of the A22 Motorway) it is a busy but nevertheless attractive place.

Ideal and
Palladium

but there are many other restaurants as well.

The Church is worth a visit.

Sir Cliff Richard has a villa and vineyard just outside the village.

Although some 5 km from the coast Guia is a popular place to stay for those on holiday (vacationing) on the Algarve. It caters well for those who want to be away from the crowds on the coast but nevertheless not be isolated. Most of the tourist accommodation comprises self catering villas and apartments. There are some marvelous beaches within a 10 minute drive. Other nearby attractions include Algarve Shopping, Zoomarine (for the family) and the various golf courses along the coast. You can also easily head inland for a taste of the real Portugal.
