On a personal note, in a 2009 audio interview Rausser attributes his interest in resource economics to his childhood spent growing up on a dairy farm. At the age of 5, he was responsible for the care of calves born on the farm, which gave him the opportunity to learn about the choices and consequences involved in raising animals.
