for children aged 4 and primary school for children from the ages of 5 to 11.

History

The school was opened in 1875 as Stevenston Public School and at that time in school history pupils only went to the one school from the ages of 5 - 15.

The school was renamed Glencairn Primary School in 1971 with the opening of Auchenharvie Academy. At this time the school became a Primary School and those of Secondary School age (12+) moved to Auhenharvie Academy. In 1982 a fire burned though the old school, which destroyed part of the main school.

There is an old part of the building that survived the fire, which the present primary school still uses. Plus the new building has a part of the old wall that survived and was added on to the new building in 1982. The current Head Teacher is Mrs Jean C Todd.
