History

Glasgow has had many clubs over the years including Glasgow Cowal and Glasgow Skye whose names reflected the Highland area from which they drew their players. However, Glasgow Mid Argyll now draws its players from throughout Scotland. GMA was established in 1928 and won the Camanachd Cup

For 2009, due to the weakened nature of South Division One, GMA were considered favorites for promotion by sectors of the shinty community. They failed to win the league however, coming second to Oban Camanachd

The 2010 season has seen GMA struggle greatly in the Premier Division, having lost all their games as of 26th April 2010.http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Shinty-George-Hay-backs-MidArgyll.6234188.jp In the nadir of the season so far, they were hammered 14-0 by Fort William on the 15th of May 2010 at Peterson Park.http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Fort-William39s-Innes--nets.6298048.jp The club finally won a league game on the 5th of June against Glenurquhart 1-0.http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Shinty-Glasgow-side-celebrate-first.6343653.jp The club finally succumbed to the inevitability of relegation on 28 August 2010 after a thumping 7-0 defeat to Kingussie http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Shinty-Kingussie-ensure-Mid-Argyll.6501031.jp and will play in South Division One in 2011. However, the second team won Bullough Cup against Kyles Athletichttp://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Shinty-Kyles-suffer-heartache-for.6514218.jp and the Milngavie & Bearsden youth team reached the Scottish Hydro Development Cup Final, raising hopes that they will not be so unprepared the next time the club makes the step up.http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Shinty-Kingussie-ensure-Mid-Argyll.6501031.jp

The scars from the disastorous 2010 season were healed somewhat with a good campaign in South One, where only an all-conquering Bute were able to stop GMA winning the league again.

GMA ladies

The women's team won the women's Camanachd Cup, the Valerie Fraser trophy in 2006 for the first time but lost out on winning the national league title to Glengarry. In 2007 they won the National first Division and Second Division, becoming the first team ever to win both leagues. The team is currently managed by Donald Colville, who is also first team player with GMA seniors and was the successful manager for the Scotland Ladies' first ever win on home soil when they defeated the Irish 6-4 in Fort William. http://www.glasgowmidargyll.com/

Youth

The club is affiliated with several youth teams round Glasgow, Milngavie and Bearsden (who won the U-14 National Development Trophy in 2007 and 2009), Meadowburn Bishopbriggs and Sgoil Ghaidhlig Ghlaschu AKA The Glasgow Gaels.
