George Montagu was the son of William Drogo Montagu, 7th Duke of Manchester, and Countess Louise von Alten. On May 22, 1876, he married Doña María Consuelo Yznaga del Valle, the daughter of a wealthy Cuban plantation owner and a renowned beauty.
