He is an author of several computer sciences textbooks. For example, his most popular textbook for pupils "Basic computer sciences and ) computer engineering" was published with the number of printed copies more than 7 million books. Other his textbooks are also very popular among professors and everybody accepts Lebedev's influence on Russian computer science.

In the beginning of 1992 he left the post of the chairman and participated in corporatization of Nakhodka Comercial Sea Port and organisation of Yukos Oil Company where initially he worked as a consultant and after that as a vice-president

Last years of his life Gennady Lebedev was vice-president of consulting company Vangvard where the field of his interests was large projects for companies of fuel-energy complex. In addition to it he worked in the Committee of budget and tax policy of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, preparing tax reforms.

Gennady Lebedev died in May, 12 2004 during his vacation in Turkey
