History

The district was created on June 9, 1997 from portions of Bulandshahr and Ghaziabad districts.

It has a total area of 1354 km2. Because of its proximity to Delhi and better infrastructure facilities as compared to other districts in Uttar Pradesh, it is proving itself to be the favorite and most important investment destination for major companies and industries in India. With a population of 1,105,290 in 2001 decennial Census, the area has transformed into a fast growing suburb of Delhi. The population registered some 1,674,714 in census 2011. For the 2011 census, 82.20% of its population being recorded as literate. Female literacy, an area that has seen a remarkable jump across the state (up by nearly 13 points at 69.72%), in GB Nagar, it stands at 72.78%.

Infrastructure

The importance of Gautam Budh Nagar and its major industrial areas increases all the more because of its inclusion in the proposed Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. The growth of industries in this district has been such that the not restricting to the earlier designated industrial area of Noida, further industrial lands/ areas are being developed in the district in the form of Greater Noida, Dadri, yamuna Express Highway from greater noida to agra,a 165 km highway.The ganga expressway of 30,000 crores
