Miscellaneous Information and Trivia

During the late 1990s the school mascot was the "Gorlock". The white furry creature was the winning entry in a contest to decide who or what would represent the school despite widespread allegation that the depiction of the creature in the winning drawing was simply a direct copy of some other artist's creation. This creature was painted next to a door in the A-Wing and has been recently painted over.

Once Scituate decided to move the 6th grade curriculum back into the elementary schools, the last 6th grade class to pass through the halls of Gates (the graduating class of 2009) made a mural on the C Wing wall of everyone's handprint to symbolize teamwork. Former vice-principal Lynn Bastoni decided to paint over this memoir.

Chorus class used to be held in the library, until a wall between two A wing classrooms was knocked down in the summer of 2003.

School Layout

The school is divided into three main sections, the A wing, the B wing, and the C wing.
In the A wing there are 2 floors, in the B wing there are 3 floors, and in the C wing there is 1 floor.
