Gallitzin is known for its historic railroad tunnels (Gallitzin Tunnel
), which are a minor tourist draw. Horseshoe Curve and the Allegheny Portage Railroad
historic site are also nearby.

In the borough the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
