Apparatus

The Fullerton Fire Department currently has six fire stations strategically located throughout the city. Fire Station 1 (Headquarters) houses the most active apparatus in the city: Engine 1; Truck 1; Battalion Chief 1; USAR 1; USAR Support 1. Each of the five other stations houses one engine whose unit number corresponds with the respective station (e.g., Station 2 houses Engine 2 and so on). Fully staffed paramedic engines (also termed ALS or Advanced Life Support units) include Engine 1; Engine 2; Engine 4; and Engine 5. Currently, Engines 3 and 6 and Truck 1 are Paramedic Assessment Units (PAUs or Basic Life Support units), staffed by EMTs who are trained to evaluate and stabilize patients for hospital transport or further treatment by an ALS unit if necessary.

Response

The Fullerton Fire Department is dispatched by Metronet, a regional dispatch facility located in Orange, California. The facility is responsible for dispatching fire personnel in several cities throughout Orange County (Anaheim, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Orange, Huntington Beach, and Newport Beach). Calls placed to 9-1-1 in Fullerton are answered by dispatchers at the Fullerton Police Department; fire and paramedic requests are then transferred to Metronet.

, an independent contractor with the City of Fullerton. Three ambulances are stationed throughout the city at all times and are dispatched by Metronet on the same radio frequency as fire personnel. This allows firefighters to communicate directly with ambulance personnel via radio.
