Fredrikson Stallard was established in 2002 by the furniture and product design duo Patrik Fredrikson (born, 1968 Sweden) and Ian Stallard (born 1973, UK).

Biography

Patrik Fredrikson and Ian Stallard began their collaboration in 1995 and have since become internationally recognised as leading exponents of British avant-garde design. Both studied at the internationally renowned Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design

In 2002 Fredrikson Stallard launched their joint practice and moved to a 3,500 sq/ft atelier in East London, in which their design practice has been able to flourish. Fredrikson Stallard has exhibited widely in London, Milan, Paris, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Basel and Miami.  Crystal Palace show in Milan 2007. A piece that is constantly destroyed and recreated through movement, the 1,990 crystals are initially suspended in the form of a recognisable chandelier, before slowly erupting in different directions into a chaotic array. The crystals then change direction, return softly to the chandelier form, only for a moment, before fracturing off in the other direction.

Two of Fredrikson Stallard's works have been acquired by the Victoria and Albert museum for their permanent collection, thanks to funding from the Outset Design Fund. The pieces chosen are Fredrikson Stallard's now iconic Table#1 together with another of their seminal works, the Pyrenees sofa. The pieces are now on view in the new acquisitions gallery as part of the London Design Festival. Table#1 will be later become a final chapter in the permanent 20th Century collection, and the Pyrenees sofa will also form part of next years exhibition British Design 1948 - 2012, which will coincide with the Olympic Games in London.
