Farmingdale was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature
on April 8, 1903, from portions of Howell Township
.

In the borough the population was spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 35.5% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 9.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.0 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $48,889, and the median income for a family was $59,625. Males had a median income of $40,000 versus $27,375 for females. The per capita income
