The FWL began play in 2011 with each team facing each of the other teams three times for 27 regular-season league games. Post-season play saw the top five teams in a nine-game double-elimination tournament with the Humboldt Crabs losing their first tournament game and winning the next four to become the 2011 league champions.

The Far West League is an interstate summer collegiate wood bat baseball league, existing to enhance the summer baseball experience for each community, team and baseball player within the league. We play highly competitive summer wood-bat baseball, providing top collegiate baseball players with an outstanding opportunity to hone individual skills while offering hometown fans a great live summer baseball spectator experience. The competition takes place at top-quality interstate baseball venues operated at the highest standards of team and league management. We treat each league member with dignity and respect and all aspects of the league are accomplished through the involved consent of each participating team. It is a resource to member teams and their communities. Through the high level of administration off field and excellent competition on field, the Far West League gives players excellent play, recognition and visibility within the regional, national and international baseball community.
