It is in both Greater Oporto (Porto) and GAM of Oporto ( Porto Metropolitan Area ).
The present Mayor is José Barbosa Mota, elected by the Socialist Party.

The municipal holiday is June 16.It is one of the smallest municipalities in Portugal.
