. As a child, Colton took a strong interest in sports, which blossomed into varsity-level competition during her teenage years. She played on the varsity basketball, tennis and lacrosse teams for the Wantagh Warriors of Wantagh High School until graduating in 2000.

In the Fall of 2000, Colton began attending Syracuse University

 and began her broadcasting career as a production assistant. She graduated to the position of writer shortly after, followed by producer. In 2007, Colton graduated to sports anchor and reporter, covering sports for not only News 12 Long Island

Colton won a 2010 New York Emmy Award in the category of Sports Coverage: Series, for her series entitled ‘Iron Inspiration,’ which told the story of a Long Island man who overcame drug and alcohol addiction by training for triathlons. Colton followed his journey up to Lake Placid
