In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Garcia started at shortstop for Canada ahead of former major leaguer Kevin Nicholson and responded very well by hitting .375/.524/.500. One problem was defense as he made four errors in five games, fielding .867. He spent the rest of the winter with the Waikiki BeachBoys, batting .348/.427/.485 with 8 steals in 9 tries.

Beijing Olympics

Garcia played for Canada in the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament and was their shortstop as they finished first in earning a spot in the Beijing Olympics. Garcia struggled at the plate (.240/.321/.240) and in the field (.825 fielding, 7 errors in 7 games) though he did score 6 runs. He scored the winning run in their 10-inning victory over the German national team, reaching via error and coming home on a bases-loaded walk by Dirk Fries to Emerson Frostad.

Garcia was a late addition to Canada for the 2008 Olympics, replacing Pete Orr
