El Rosario is the last PEMEX gas stop before heading into the Guerro Negro mountains. Be sure to fill up before heading South on Mexico's Hwy 1 (Careterra Transpeninsular or Transpeninsular Highway). You will find a roadside fuel stop in Cataviña

, however it is NOT a PEMEX and you aren't sure what you are getting for your money, it's just a couple of guys and a truck or trailer with fuel cans.

The town is primarily agricultural, with the major crop being onions. There are several nearby fishing camps. The fishing off Punta Baja has been terrific this year (2009) with near record catches of Calico Bass, you will also find White Sea Bass, Halibut & Ling Cod in abundance. Unless you're a die hard fisherman, use one of the Local Guides and their Pangas, the boat launch that was at Punta Baja has collapsed and is not recommended.

There are a Four Motels, one has recently added several new rooms and one has an RV Park with Water & Electricity (some spaces have a concrete pad and sewer connections as well) There is also nice Bed & Breakfast on the far east end of town. There are several Restaurants, Mama Espinosa's is famous for their Lobster Burritos. There are also several taco stands and even a Hot Dog stand dotting Hwy. 1.

There are several markets in El Rosario ranging from mini markets and meat markets to traditional markets & Liquor stores.

Bocana Beach is located approx. 5 miles west of El Rosario through the Arroyo and over the dunes, be sure to have at least front wheel drive to make the trip. Just North of El Rosario you will find the turn-off to La Lobera which has beautiful Seal Caves and an Abalone Research center and hatchery.

In early 2009 a new medical clinic opened with 24/7 availability. There is still the local 'free' clinic for the residents but travelers will want to utilize the services of the English speaking Doctor at the new clinic. The clinic has an ambulance available for emergencies and accidents and provides services from Catavina to San Quintin.
