Ecuadorian rock
Encyclopedia
Ecuadorian rock encompasses a broad and diverse independent music scene. The genre includes different styles, such as hardcore punk, metalcore, gothic metal, heavy metal, alternative rock alternativo, punk, ska, blues, and grunge. There is no solid local music industry that supports Ecuadorian rock bands, as is the case in Argentina or Mexico, though in recent years such an industry has been developing. This recency is one of the reasons that Ecuadorian rock music has not found international commercial success.

Ecuadorian society has had problems accepting rock music, because of prejudices about it, which may originate from ignorance or be generated by conservative or sensationalist media, as occurred in the Factory tragedy in Quito

Rock came to Ecuador in the late 1950s, was spread by radio and television; Mexican and Argentine rock were its main influences. It started to interpret around the 1960s under the Ecuadorian revolution and the Ecuadorian series band called "The Hippies".
