to determine Echo's motives for returning. Clint confronts Echo about her return, and she shows him half of a heart necklace which she claims that he bought for her, though he denies it. Rex breaks into Echo's room and finds the necklace, realizing it is the other half of the necklace that was left with him by his birth mother when she put him up for adoption. When Rex and Viki confront Echo, she claims that she got the necklace as a gift; Echo later researches Rex on the internet, and realizes that he is the son she gave up for adoption. She reveals to Clint that Rex is his son as well, but soon realizes that Clint has known for some time and has been purposely concealing it from an inquisitive Rex. Distrusting Rex and believing him to be a "gold-digging piece of trash" like Echo Clint threatens her not to reveal Rex's true parentage to anyone. Echo is wracked by guilt over abandoning Rex, and on November 12, 2010 she publicly reveals that she is Rex's mother. She names Charlie the father to protect Rex from Clint's wrath. A DNA test is subsequently done, and Clint tampers with the results in order to ensure that Charlie is listed as Rex's father. Over time, Rex softens toward Echo, and the two bond, as do Charlie and Rex.
When Echo is kicked out of the Angel Square Motel, she convinces Charlie and a reluctant Viki to let her move into Llanfair. Ever the schemer, Echo uses her penchant for drinking to get closer to Charlie, a recovering alcoholic. The two begin attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings together, and when Echo plants an emotional kiss on Charlie, Viki warns her to stay away from him. Dorian, meanwhile, sets out to prove that Rex is really Clint's son ---not Charlie's--- and that Echo has known the truth all along. Because of this, Dorian and Viki, who are usually frenemies, join forces with one another, and forge a truce against this common enemy. Echo and Charlie continue to grow closer, infuriating Viki to the point that she, with Dorian's help, throws Echo out on the street.
Echo takes refuge in the only place she can afford, a cheap motel called the Minuteman Motel. When the truth about Clint's deception in regards to Rex's paternity comes out, a devastated Charlie finds comfort in Echo's arms, unaware that she knew all along that Clint was Rex's father. Though Charlie admits to Echo he has feelings for her, he tells her he loves Viki and needs to stay with his wife. Soon enough, however, Echo and Charlie are engaging in a torrid affair behind Viki's back.
Viki eventually catches Charlie and Echo in bed together, just after Charlie tells a relieved Echo that he is planning on leaving his wife for her. Viki and Charlie decide to divorce, leading Echo and Charlie to go public with their relationship. Fearing that Charlie will discover that she knew all along that Rex wasn't his son, Echo convinces Clint to keep his mouth shut. Unbeknownst to her, however, Clint records their conversation and hands it over to Dorian in exchange for her aide when he collapses from a heart attack. Dorian quickly gives the tape recorder ---and Echo's confession to knowing all along that Clint is Rex's father--- to Viki, who promptly hands it over to Charlie. Devastated by the betrayal, Charlie breaks up with Echo and then, after he and Viki divorce, leaves Llanview to return to Paris, Texas, to help rebuild the Bonjour Cafe after it was leveled in a tornado. Meanwhile, a furious Echo vows to get revenge on both Viki and Dorian for destroying her relationship with Charlie. Echo also tells Viki that Dorian was the one who caused Clint's heart attack, threatening to drive a wedge between Viki and Dorian's newfound reconcilliation with each other as friends. However, Viki doesn't buy anything Echo has to say, because of what Echo had done to her, and prefers to believe Dorian, her former stepmother and frenemy, because, at least, Dorian has shown that she cares for Viki, unlike Echo, who ruined two of Viki's marriages.

On July 15, 2011, Dorian figures out by herself that Echo was the one who was sabatoging her marriage to David after she confronts Echo outside her La Boulaie estate.
