Derrick C. Brown, a poet
/performer and former paratrooper
born January 19th 1978, travels the world performing his written work. He has gained a something of a cult following for his performances, which incorporate spoken word, music and even magic. To date, Brown has performed at over 1500 venues and universities, including La Sorbonne in Paris
and The Nuyorican Poets Café in New York City

He won the California Independent Book Critics' Award in 2004 for his written work, and his performance poetry has won six first-place slam finishes. He was placed second in the National Poetry Slam
individual championship in 1998.
In 2004, Brown started Write Bloody Publishing
, an independent press based in Murfreesboro, TN.
In October 2006, he was joined by poet
and actress Amber Tamblyn
for several poetry performances in California.
Brown was also the lead singer/song writer of the John Wilkes Kissing Booth. and All Black Cinema.
In 2006 Marc Smith, founder of the National Poetry Slam, rated Brown as one of the top five poets in America.
He is a member of 2007's Solomon Sparrow's Electric Whale Revival and 2008's Junkyard Ghost Revival, both of which featured poets Buddy Wakefield
and Anis Mojgani
as actively touring members.
