The Houses are led by a House Captain and various Prefects who are either a elected or nominated body of senior students. The working is supervised by a team of teachers called House Tutors led by House Master. While admission students are assigned various Houses randomly and they belong to the house till their tenure in the institution. The achievements of each and every student of a house during Inter - House Competitions counts and the houses are awarded points. The House with the highest point is awarded the Winners Trophy at the end of the Session.

School Journal, 'WE' and other publications
DPS, Dhanbad publishes two Journals for the Junior and Senior Wing. The full colored 100 page Journal titled "WE" was launched in 2005 and is successfully running since then. The present editor is Mrs. Sujata Ranjan (Dept. of English). The Hindi Section is handled by Mrs. Hemlata Prasad (Dept. of Hindi). The editors are assisted by a organised student body of the Editorial Team. The magazine gives a platform to young writers, poets, artists to showcase their creative talent in the print media. It in fact acts as a milestone in the great journey of DPS, Dhanbad. The Editorial Board is incharge of the complete designing, formulation and editing of articles on behalf of the Principal, Mr. K.B. Bhargava, who is the patron of the Magazine. The Board is also responsible for bringing out Biennial newsletters which contain the happenings of the school.Uniform and Dress
There are broadly two sets of Dress Uniforms :- Summer (Apr - Nov): White shirts with school logo and white shorts (upto 6th grade) and white trousers (7th - 12th grade) with school belt, school socks and black shoes. White shirts and White Pleated skirts for Girls. A special feature is Collar Badges. These are brass badges put at collar. Left collar holds the Class Tag (II, III, IV etc.) and right collar holds the House Tag (C, G, J, Y, R, S).School Appointees, House captains and prefects wear their post appelates as shoulder tags.
- Winter (Nov - Feb): White full Shirt with school logo and grey worsted trousers for all boys and grey pleated skirts for all girls. In Winter the Bottle Green tie is to be worn. For Grades 6 and up, the Green School Blazer is worn optional with School pullovers.
- The Nursery and Preparatory classes have separate uniforms as checked red and green children wears.
- The Academic toppers are awarded Special coloured Blazers that is worn by them. Stuents with 85% and above for six consecutive years are awarded Blue Blazers and those with eight years are awarded Maroon Blazers. These are very coveted status in the student life. Students work very hard to get these awards.
