She later worked as an English teacher before developing a financial practice. In 1990, she moved to Miami, merging her practice with those of Harold Evensky
and Peter Brown
to form Evensky, Brown & Katz, where she continues to serve as President. (The firm became Evensky & Katz in 2004, after the retirement of Peter Brown.)
She was awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters (honoris causa) in 2001.
Katz has two children and several grandchildren through her marriage to Harold Evensky.
Katz was named one of Financial Planning Magazine's 5 Most Influential People in the Planning Profession in 2001 and 2008. She is the only person in the history of the list to be selected twice.
