On 2 July 2009, Hoilett was granted a work permit, allowing him to continue his fledgling career in England at Premier League club Blackburn Rovers.

He scored his first and second goals for Blackburn since his full-time return to the club in only his third game, in a pre-season friendly against non-League club Leigh Genesis. He also earned Rovers a penalty in that game. His first competitive goal for Rovers came in a 3–1 League Cup

International career

Born and raised in Canada, Hoilett is also eligible to play for Jamaica through family. Currently he has not yet played in a competitive FIFA international match, which would determine to which country he would be limited.

In September 2011, Hoilett expressed interest to play for Canada. His father intervened as he believes Jamaica has potential for more endorsements.
