In 1997 three friends and coworkers at Seer Technologies, Bob Brauer, Don Williams and Scott Gidley, founded DataFlux to provide organizations with data quality software. The early technology focused on "dirty data", especially in the areas of invalid address data and name ambiguity within databases. While their technology was promising, the founders struggled to attract interest from venture capitalists.
