History

The school began in 1800 in the Old Church House in Week. Funding for the school was found in the 1667 bequest of John Ford which provided an annuity of 40 shillings, money intended for the supply of Bibles for the poor, which had accumulated unused since 1780. This remained the site of the Parish School until 1855, when a New school was built at Shinners Bridge on land donated for the purpose by Mr A Champernowne. This School was also used for worship between the demolition of the old church at the Hall in 1878 and the completion of the new church in 1880. In 1884 the schoolroom was extended and an infant's classroom built onto the North side. In 1939 children over the age of 11 were transferred to the newly built Senior School

. Lastly in 1954 the school expanded across Bidwell Brook into land and buildings originally used as a cider mill.

Present day

An entirely new school has been built and was opened on February 25, 2010. The school serves the local village, though many pupils come from further away through parental choice. The new school was the work of White Design whose focus was to make the school as environmentally sustainable as possible. The entire school is constructed of pre-fabricated solid timber sheets, insulated externally with natural wood fibre insulation, and clad in larch boarding. Solar panels on the class roofs provide electricity to run the heat recovery system and lighting. The toilets and basins are fed by rain water collection tanks and the whole site is serviced by a sustainable drainage strategy incorporating swales, reed beds and ponds to filter grey water.
