. It was founded on June 12, 1903, the brothers Firmino Joaquim Pires de Camargo (Nho Quim Pires) and João Clímaco Pires de Camargo. He began his movement in the same year and initially had four pages, with circulation bi-weekly. It is owned by Ubaldino do Amaral Foundation-FUA, which is the sponsor.

History

In the beginning, the objectives of bi-weekly were political. Calling himself "a Republican sheet and nothing more," was strong opposition to the Republican Party PRP and their local leaders. There was retaliation in that year founded, on the night of October 30, where there was an attempted arson and jamming the paper. In 1936, the newspaper again changed ownership and is purchased by Ignacio da Silva Rocha, Carlos Correia, promoting improvements. , buy the newspaper and start a deep process of modernization graphics.

In 1963, a group of 21 members of the Masonic Lodge Perseverance III acquires Cruzeiro do Sul editor, beginning a process of modernization, which becomes a nonprofit. From the time of the foundation so far - now belonging to the Foundation Ubaldino do Amaral - the paper became a major media complex of São Paulo.

After almost a century, the "Cruzeiro do Sul" now occupies a unique position in Brazilian newspapers, consisting of only 283 newspapers. It stands out even in the daily newspaper of São Paulo State in which, the 625 municipalities, only 52 - just over 8% of the total - have a daily newspaper. Of these, most are not daily
in the full sense of the word circulating in fact six days a week. The Cruzeiro do Sul circulates every day, is audited by CVI (National Movement Tester) and leads the movement within, from Monday to Sunday, surpassed only by the Correio Popular on Sunday from Campinas
