Barbados is considered the birthplace of rumbullion as it was originally called nearly 350 years ago. Danish merchant Valdemar Hanschell established a liquor store in the 19th century which became the birthplace of Cockspur Rum. Cockspur blends its rum while aging it in oak barrels using the pure coral water of the Caribbean, a unique ingredient known to Cockspur. Cockspur contains forty percent alcohol by volume.

Cockspur is Barbados' leading golden rum and has won numerous awards internationally. These awards include the "International Wine and Spirit Competition's" Gold Medal in 1981, 1984, and 1989. It is considered a five star rum with a proud rooster as its emblem.
