Clarion is a borough
in Clarion County
in the U.S. state
of Pennsylvania
, about 100 miles (161 km) north-northeast of Pittsburgh and part of the Pittsburgh DMA. Clarion was settled in 1839 and incorporated in 1841. In the past, the surrounding area produced natural gas, oil, lumber and coal. Merely 2,004 people lived there in 1900, and only 2,864 lived there in 1910. The population was 6,185 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat
of Clarion County and home to the annual Autumn Leaf Festival and Clarion University of Pennsylvania

There were 2,000 households out of which 15.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 25.3% were married couples
living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 64.1% were non-families. 38.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.75.
In the borough the population was spread out with 8.8% under the age of 18, 56.4% from 18 to 24, 13.1% from 25 to 44, 11.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 22 years. For every 100 females there were 73.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 71.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $19,902, and the median income for a family was $40,208. Males had a median income of $31,204 versus $20,214 for females. The per capita income
