between 1917 and 1949. Lord Leconfield married Beatrice Violet Rawson, daughter of Lt Col Richard Hamilton Rawson, in 1911. He died in April 1952, aged 80, and was succeeded in the barony by his younger brother Hugh.

Leconfield had two adopted children Peter and Elizabeth Geraldine Wyndham (originally Betty Seymour). Peter was disqualified from inheriting his adoptive father’s title and the right to live at Petworth House after his death.

Elizabeth Wyndham, socialite and civil servant, was born on December 15, 1922. She died on May 13, 2008, aged 85 in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire.
