Charles Amédée de Savoie, 6th Duc de Nemours

Charles Amadeus of Savoy (12 April 1624 – 30 July 1652) was a French military leader and magnate and Duke of Nemours. He was the father of the penultimate Duchess of Savoy and Queen of Portugal
.
He served in the Army of Flanders
in 1645, and in the following year commanded the light cavalry at the siege of Kortrijk
. In 1652 he took part in the war of the Fronde, and fought at Bleneau
and at the Faubourg St Antoine, where he was wounded. He was shot and killed the same year in a duel by his brother-in-law, François de Bourbon, Duke of Beaufort
.

. Her mother was the wealthy heiress, Françoise de Lorraine (1592–1669), the daughter of Philippe Emmanuel, Duke of Mercœur and a cousin of the Duke of Lorraine.
Charles had five children, two daughters and three sons. Only his daughters survived;
His granddaughter Isabel Luisa of Portugal was heiress-presumptive to the throne of Portugal and Princess of Beira, and his grandson Victor Amadeus II of Savoy became in 1712 king of the island of Sicily
and in 1720 instead king of Sardinia
. Descendants of Victor Amadeus II are represented in practically all Catholic royal families of Europe.
He was buried at the Notre Dame d'Annecy in Annecy, the capital of the Duchy of Nemours.
