History

Originally formed by Greg McPherson and Lewis Llewellyn, Centiment started as a recording act, drawing on thrash/speed metal influences. They first performed as a 4 piece in 2004.

Planet Alarm and Demoing (2006-2008)

During 2007 Greg's brother, Dave McPherson, joined on drums to take over from Dave Carter who left after the recording of the Embers in Burning Fields EP in late 2006. Greg posted a rather small entry on the band's Myspace page with the info:
  • "Saturday, January 27, 2007
Title: Dave McPherson confirmed as new drummer
Current mood: artistic
Well, not the best kept secret. But Dave McPherson is our new drummer and we're all excited."

Within the weeks of Dave joining the band they began recording the 7-track EP named 'Planet Alarm'. With the EP lasting over half an hour (30:15) it was the longest Centiment EP to date. Following the release of the EP the band supported another Essex based band 'Fei Comodo' on their UK tour (with only supporting on the English dates) and was the first tour Centiment had appeared on.

Late in 2007 the band began recording a few demos for a potential first album. The tracks 'We're In This Together', 'Earth: Part One' and 'Science and Victory' were all uploaded at the beginning of 2008 and were set to be re-recorded for the albums release (scheduled for 2009). The track 'Origin' was also demoed however Greg's Mac broke before it could be uploaded.

Since the band couldn't afford to replace the broken Mac and had lost all master files of the demos they declared themselves 'Credit Crunched'. Greg posted a blog stating they simply couldn't afford to keep the band running.

Reform (2008-2010)

They have however 'reformed' later during 2008, with a slightly changed line-up. Greg stood down from being vocalist in place of Dave, with Dave subsequently giving up the role of Drummer. The two members began writing some material and were piecing demos together slowly. As they still had no money to get the band off the ground again they decided to take things slow and simply write up some ideas. During this time Greg gave some small updates to the fans on how the album work was coming along:
  • "Monday, November 09, 2009
I have written 5 tracks for this thus far, but there will be no rushing. I want the first full length to be perfect.
It is as of yet unnamed with no working title, all of the music will be created by me and all of the vocals will be by Dave."
  • "Wednesday, November 11, 2009
I reckon the hype can calm down, you won't be hearing anything for about a year!
It sh*ts on the old stuff."
  • "Friday, December 25, 2009
Just passed the half hour mark on the centiment album, 6 tracks."
  • "Wednesday, December 30, 2009
As it is, it is just a studio project, and I do all the music and Dave does all the vocals."

So after working writing at least 6 songs the vacancy of drummer was filled by friend of the band Steve McGeary (Bongo Steve) in March 2010. Within the weeks after Steve joining the band there was an announcement that Gazz Marlow (new member of InMe

had also been added to the band, adding a second guitar into the mix. During this period there was no mention of Neil Howard re-joining the band with Greg stating that the bass was going to be studio-programmed in a Dubstep

style, however in October 2010 it was revealed Neil had re-joined the band and they were working on the 'Streets of Rage' campaign.

Streets of Rage (2010-2011)

In October 2010 the bands myspace, facebook and twitter pages was given a mass makeover by Greg and Dave to suit the new 'Streets of Rage' theme. This mainly consisted of a new band logo, basic artwork for Streets of Rage a and new theme for the sites. Within the next few days they uploaded the first demo the band have recorded since re-forming earlier in the year; 'Viktor Frankl'. This track was made available to download for exclusive members who have donated/bought an item from Dave's solo Pledge website.

On Xmas day 2010 the band released another demo from Streets of Rage. This track was an instrumental track plainly named 'Christmas Demo (No vocals)' which was later named 'Defenders of Oasis'. This track was also made available to download via Dave's Pledge site.

On the final Day of Dave's album pledge as a bonus download he uploaded another Centiment demo (this taken directly from the Streets of Rage recording sessions). This demo, named 'Pixelated' was instrumental and also unfinished with only guitar and drums being used in the track (vocals and bass to be added at a later date).

Recording of the album began on 22 March 2011 with Mike Curtis (of Fei Comodo) acting as producer. It is being recorded at CDS Studios (Mike's studio in Essex).
