 Track and Field Championships; Carla won titles in the heptathlon and the javelin, establishing Big Ten records in both events. Battaglia also placed fourth in the triple jump; bringing her team point production to twenty-six. That same year, Carla earned recognition as a finalist for Big Ten Athlete of the Year honors. Battaglia's record distance (54.50 m) in the javelin was superior to the qualifying standard for the United States Olympic Committee

 Track and Field Team Trials; the event judge ruled that the javelin had landed flat, thus nullifying the throw for USOC consideration. Battaglia's 1984 mark in the javelin remained on the books as the Big Ten championship record for eighteen seasons.

Carla also represented Indiana University at the NCAA Championships; by virtue of her seventh place performance in the heptathlon, she was named to the All-American Track and Field Team. The following year, Battaglia threw 53.60 meters in the javelin to claim a sixth place medal at the 1985 USA Track and Field

In 2006, as fitting tribute to her unwavering athletic prowess, Carla Battaglia-Greene was inducted to the Centerville High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
