Truax is a 2002 high school graduate from Osseo Senior High. While attending high school he was an all-conference member of the football team.
Truax graduated from the University of Minnesota majoring in sociology, minoring in both African American studies and political science. He plans to move onto graduate school and study urban planning.

Amateur career

Truax compiled a record of 24 wins and 8 losses as an amateur boxer. In 2006 he was the USA Boxing State Champion, the Region 1 Champion, and the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves Champion. Truax's amateur career came to an end when someone notified the state amateur governing body that he had participated in an amateur "tough guy" competition before his first amateur boxing match, and the state revoked his amateur status in the spring of 2007.

 of Ray Walker. As of July 26, 2009 Truax had a professional record of 13 wins (nine by knockout) and no losses. Truax won his first fight outside of Minnesota, against Thomas Rittenbaugh in a Goossen-Tutor promoted event, on June 26. The Rittenbaugh fight was also Truax's first against a fighter coming off a win. On August 29, 2008 Truax defeated Bobby Kliewer, a fighter on a five-bout winning streak, and knocked Kliewer out in the third round. On July 25 2009 Truax defeated 25-6 Patrick Perez by seventh-round TKO, becoming just the third man to knock Perez out. Truax is considered a hot prospect, and was in fact named as the Boxing Digest Prospect of the Month for April, 2009. Truax fights in the orthodox stance. He is known to be a late match fighter. He will save his energy until the last few rounds.
