The school was previously called Bushfield Community College, but was renamed Ormiston Bushfield Academy in September 2009

The school building has recently been approved a £20 million rebuild which will involve a completely new building and the demolition of the old building. The new building has been designed and will be built by Kier

Building work will commence in December 2010 and will be completed in time for the academy to open in September 2012.
