Buddhavacana, meaning "the Word of the Buddha", refers to the most sacred writings of the various Buddhist traditions. It has never been interpreted literally, & all traditions recognize as Buddhavacana texts that make no claim to being the actual words of the Buddha, such as the Theragatha
