History

The community was first settled in 1805 by Captain James Dunn. The Village of Brocton was incorporated in 1894. Brocton used to be named "Salems Corners (Cross Roads)" after the town in Massachusetts, but was later renamed "Brocton.'

The St.Stephen's Hotel was a fixture on the 4 corners in Brocton, N.Y since the mid-
1800's, now an empty shell. It was bought and sold several times before becoming the Soggy Bottom Inn and eventually succumbing to the hard economic times of the area.

Brocton Central School

The Brocton Central School District is located in the northwest region of Chautauqua County, which is in the western-most part of New York State. The school campus houses programs for students pre-k through grade 12, with an entire student population of approximately 750 students. The District is located approximately 60 miles south of Buffalo and 45 miles northeast of Erie, PA.

Brocton Central School is a component of Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES.

The District is situated near the New York State Thruway and I-86 providing access to metropolitan areas in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and Canada.

 passes through the village. U.S. Route 5 passes just to the north of the village. And Route 380 begins at U.S. 5, passes through Brocton as Lake Avenue then continues south as Route 380 towards Stockon, Fredonia and Jamestown.
