Famous residents include Darren Richards, Pat Thompson, and Jeff Lemieux. The local high school football team was famously featured in USA Today in 2007 when it broke a 5-year losing streak. Former team captain, Darren T. Richards, was the coach that led the team to victory.

It is near Malone, Potsdam, and Massena NY, which are all northern neighbors to the Adirondack Park.
