In the recent months, Bootle high has been re-inspected by OFSTED and the schools average has risen dramatically to the standard of "GOOD", this is continuing to rise month by month. The Ofsted inspection was a shock to all staff and pupils as no-one expected one final report as the school is to close on August 31, 2009. All pupils, staff and members of the school are very please with the result.

in May 2007 indicated the project to cost approximately £22.4m, with the new higher capacity Litherland High School to take effect from 1 September 2009. All pupils at Bootle High School would be guaranteed a place at the new Litherland High School, should the proposals be approved.

In 1973 Warwick Bolam Secondary School merged with Bootle Grammar School to become Warwick Bolam High School. The school resided on two sites until 1984 when Warwick Bolam High School merged with The Countess Of Derby based at Browns Lane.
