History

Bloomington traditionally was home to a single high school, Bloomington High School. For many years a three-story brick building in what is now Seminary Square was home to the school. In 1965, a new high school building was built on S. Walnut and the old building was tuned into a middle school. In 1967, one of the middle school students burned down the old building, completely demolishing it. In 1972, two county high schools outside the city were closed, and Bloomington High School South was created with the mascot, building, and colors similar to the old school. At the same time, Bloomington High School North
