. The school has traditionally had a strong music curriculum, with its varied bands and orchestras consistently winning state and national awards. It is considered to be one of the higher profile music schools within Victoria.

New Buildings

Blackburn High School has recently started construction of a new language centre. The old Light Timber Construction

 buildings will be progressively demolished in a pending redevelopment program. There will also be a new administration building, a new year 7 centre, new Music facilities and a new gym/performance area. The Charlton Music centre will be redeveloped. There will also be a new school entrance.

Houses

Blackburn High School has four different houses. These are generally only used for sporting events such as the swimming carnival and athletics day.
