The episcopal title of "Bishop of Edmonton" is one of three that are duplicated in the Anglican Communion. The other Bishop of Edmonton is a diocesan bishop in Canada. Ironically, although recent bishops of Edmonton in the Church of England have been opposed to the ordination of women as bishops, the current Bishop of Edmonton in the Anglican Church of Canada is a woman, as was her predecessor. (The other two duplicated bishoprics in the Anglican Communion are Rochester [United States and England] and Newcastle [Australia and England].)
Since early November 2010, the Bishop of Edmonton has had responsibility for those clergy and parishes within the Diocese of London
(and additionally, as a licensed assistant bishop
, in the Dioceses of Southwark
and Rochester
) who cannot in good conscience agree with the ordination of women. These parishes were, from 1980 to 2010, served by the diocese's suffragan Bishop of Fulham
